Upcoming XCC's:

Snowy Mountains 2026: 29 Oct - 1 Nov 2026 (registrations open soon)

XTREME CHARACTER
CHALLENGE

A 3 night wilderness event, designed to rattle, test and inspire you.

DISCOVER THE IMPACT OF
TRANSFORMATION

For 3 days you'll explore Australia's wilderness, tackling mind body and soul challenges along the way. You won't be told what lies ahead, what you'll eat, when you'll stop or how you'll be challenged but you can trust you'll be met with a series of perfectly placed and demanding tasks.

READY FOR A REAL CHALLENGE?

Each stage of the XCC is extremely intentional and designed to unearth the real you, but the details are kept a mystery on purpose; to know them, you'll have to come and see for yourself.

Have you found your limit? The XCC may or may not push you to your physical breaking point, and although it's designed for men to finish it's still been described as the hardest thing some men have ever done.  What it certainly will do is bring to the surface your blind spots, things that need dealing with, bring perspective to life and awaken the fighter in you.

This is not a men's retreat, a walk in the park or a coffee fueled conference. There are no showers. No sofas. No bunk beds or cozy lodges. All you'll have is your pack on your back and your team around you.

MIND

An XCC makes you think about what's important. We ask big questions that need big answers. Who taught you how to do life as a man? Is it working?

BODY

An XCC is a demanding physical experience, designed to challenge and test your body. It’s not a military fitness test, more an exercise in determination and resilience.

SOUL

XCC events are a journey to discover identity and purpose. Find your ability to do more, be inspired and become a man of action.

COME PREPARED FOR A PHYSICAL CHALLENGE

XCC is physically demanding.

The journey is based in wilderness locations where you will need to carry all the equipment you need to survive. There are no cars, no rides, no lifts. Your feet will move you from place to place. Some say it is the hardest thing they have ever done. You have to be ready to think big.  To open your mind and soul. There are moral challenges and also spiritual challenges.

This is not an expedition for quitters: come determined to press on.

This is an adventure like no other.

This weekend was terrible - in that it exposed to me just how hollow I actually am. It exposed me for how I portrayed myself and hid real problems behind smiles and laughs. It exposed me to vulnerability and I didn't like it. It has challenged me to peel back those layers and unprotect myself. To be vulnerable And to keep going.
The greatest challenge was talking to strangers about my personal challenges without being judged, not feeling ashamed, and opening up. I would recommend it to men who are seeking a further purpose & reason in life.
I spent 20 years in the marines, but I have never felt an accomplishment like I did this weekend. I feel a pull toward the cross. I will cherish it until I die... I want the 4th musketeer and my marine brothers to be at my funeral to bury me when I die.
XCC taught me that physically we might suffer and we talk about that easily. But spiritually and mentally, we tend to hold that in.
This weekend, I discovered that it is okay to forgive yourself. Even when pride may be stopping you.

FAQs

We know you've got questions. Lets answer some of them.

Who is an XCC for?

The XCC is for men ages 18 and up.

Our oldest participant to date is 76 years old.

The XCC is not a retreat. There are no bunk beds or hot showers. Make sure you can jog for half an hour without passing out, do 30 push ups and 30 sit ups (within 30 minutes), and walk up the stairs carrying 18 extra kilos without panting. These are the minimum requirements.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

We have a very specific pack list for you to follow. You are allowed to bring ONLY what is on the list. We encourage men to borrow or share equipment.

See the gear list here.

CAN I BRING ADDITIONAL FOOD

No.

I have dietary or medical REQUIREMENTS?

Ensure you have filled in the relevant details on your registration form and we will take it into account where possible. If there is a problem we will contact you.

If you have serious medical concerns such as heart problems, leg issues or intense allergies, please contact us before registering.

IS THIS A CHRISTIAN ONLY EVENT?

We aren't here to preach at you but we are a Christian organisation and 4M is a faith-based movement.

XCC is for all men, regardless of religion.

It's important to know there will be some unavoidable Christian moments throughout the XCC, however these are designed in such a way that you do not need to believe in God in order to receive their benefits. The XCC works best when there are men with all sorts of beliefs, so come and add your view.

Can I charge my phone? I WANT TO CONTACT HOME

Unfortunately, no, you can’t.

We consciously want to set aside time from technology during the weekend. A mobile phone or other electronic devices divert attention from what we want to do.

If the home front needs you for an emergency, they can contact the 4M leader responsible for the weekend (you will receive his mobile number just before the weekend).

WHAT DOES IT COST?

The cost is $450 per person but look out for our early bird pricing which offers significant discounts. This includes everything needed for the XCC, excluding the items on your pack list. Travel to/from the event location is not included.

CAN I BRING A TEAM?

Yes!

During the registration process you can fill out the Group Name section with the name of your group and we will place you together on a team. We form teams based on Group Name first, then based on where men live. If your group is less than eight, we will combine groups to make a complete team.

If you are not part of a group we will assign you a team.

What if I can't afford it?

We have a number of sponsored places available, so please get in touch regardless of your current financial situation.

Where exactly do I need to be before the start of the weekend?

You will hear from us at the very last minute. Try to carpool as much as possible!

CAN I GET INVOLVED WITH THE XCC CREW?

We are always keen to bring previous participants on board as crew.

There are many roles that we can use your talents and experience, including event crew, planning for events, administration, and marketing. Please use the contact page to reach out.
